1) Why is the PTO raising money for the school?
The PTO raises funds throughout the year to fund various initiatives that contribute to the quality of the education at NBS, but may not be fully funded through the school district. These funds allow our teachers to provide the extras that help make learning at NBS so effective!
2) How has the money raised by the PTO been used in the past?
In the past, these funds have been used to purchase the additional COWS (computers on wheels) above and beyond what was funded by the school district to provide the optimal number of mobile computers needed to support the instructional demands of all students in the school; the cross-cultural teachers exchange trip to England to allow our educators to study best educational practices in another culture; as well as a myriad of items on the annual teachers’ wish list, including books, bookshelves, dry erase boards and the like.
Funds are distributed fairly across all grade levels to ensure that the benefits of these funds are shared by all students. All purchases are made through the district's purchasing process to ensure items meet any applicable requirements of the school district.
3) Why am I being asked to contribute in so many ways?
Each one of us has our preferences in how we participate in these kinds of initiatives. Neighborhood-based donations, classroom-based donations, and business solicitation for sponsorship and donations are different ways to get the whole community involved. Please choose the level and manner at which you are most comfortable getting involved, and please don’t feel pressured to participate in more ways than you feel are appropriate.
4) How many people will attend the Adult Social & Silent Auction?
We expect 250 guests for the event.
5) How much money is expected to be raised?
We are hoping to raise at least $50,000. The NBS PTO runs this fundraiser every other year, rather than every year like some of the other district PTOs. This means that these funds need to last for two school years. The last adult social exceeded this goal by raising $75,000, and we hope that donor and attendee participation this year again meet and exceed our fund raising goal.
6) What is the dress for the evening?
Evening dress is fun and fashionable. Costumes are optional.
